The Time Someone Requested IT Support Because Their Computer Was “Being Rude”

It was just another quiet Tuesday in the IT support center when a peculiar ticket popped into the queue. The user described their issue as, “My computer is being rude to me.” Naturally, our team was intrigued—computers aren’t exactly known for their manners. As we prepared to dive into this digital mystery, the user elaborated in the ticket comments, “It keeps interrupting me and making weird noises, and it looks like it’s laughing at me.”

Curious, I called the user to get the full story. They explained that their screen would randomly pop up error messages whenever they typed certain words, and their speakers emitted strange sounds—everything from bizarre beeps to what sounded like laughter. They insisted the computer seemed to have a personality, one with a sharp sense of humor that was deliberately messing with them. When I asked for examples, they mentioned that whenever they typed the phrase “please help,” the computer would respond by closing their document and opening a video of a cat wearing sunglasses.

I requested remote access to take a closer look and quickly uncovered the prankster behind the scenes: some mischievous office jokers had installed a novelty program designed specifically to “mess with” whoever typed polite requests. It was part soundboard, part automated prank app, all designed for a laugh—except the joke wasn’t landing well for this particular user.

After disabling the “rude computer” app, the machine returned to normal behavior. The user was relieved but baffled, saying, “I guess my computer just wanted to have some fun at my expense.” We wrapped up the ticket with a gentle reminder that sometimes tech support involves not just fixing machines but untangling the office antics that come with them.

This was definitely one of those times when the computer was “rude” in a uniquely literal sense, proving that even in the IT world, reality can be surprisingly stranger than fiction.
